2012-2013 Again? Thank you Mercury Retrograde

Mercury Retrograde occurs 3-4 times a year.  Typically, this slowdown of energy is needed to remain balanced.  If we always went 60 mph, we would wear ourselves out, right?

The general effects of Mercury going Retrograde are:

  • Disagreements with friends
  • Experiencing misunderstandings
  • Travel and communication disruptions
  • Emails getting lost
  • Electronic Issues

The general rule of thumb is to AVOID signing any legal contracts during this time due to the chance of miscommunication and misunderstanding with the document.

This particular Mercury Retrograde in Gemini is a bit different.  Here’s how:

The energy of this Retrograde is inviting us to look again at some of our unfinished business of 2012-2013.  Do you remember those years?  They were full of energy and CHANGE for many people and animals.

What does this mean?  You’ve heard me say it many times, we heal things in layers.  We peel away our wounding and disharmony layer, by layer, by layer.  This helps us to remain balanced so we can continue to do our daily things in life.  This balance is a good thing because otherwise, we may be curled up in a ball in an emotional storm for a few days or weeks.  That is no fun and it is terribly painful, trust me I know.

These energies that are directed at the Earth because of the slowdown of Mercury, (Retrograde), are similar to the energies that came here to help us shift and make changes in 2012-2013. 

It’s a cycle.  It comes in and leaves for a period of time, comes in and leaves for another period of time.  Kinda ingenious, I would say, good going Universe.  ;)

Retrogrades are much needed to help us to reflect on our lives, by slowing things down.  But sometimes it feels like we are sailing along and then the water turns to mud, making the flow very slow.

We are back on the cycle of seeing and becoming aware of what we did NOT finish or what we were trying to resolve or heal within ourselves back in 2012-2013. 

Hopefully, this cycle is lighter and a bit easier for you to experience and navigate your way through.  Usually, each layer becomes easier and easier to address, if you let “it” go.

This week, many clients have had issues with a parent.  These unresolved issues probably presented themselves due to the energy that this Mercury Retrograde has created.  For one client, she kept hearing her mother’s words of intimidation and manipulation that would scare her into behaving a certain way, when she was a child.  These words were ingrained in her and were actually causing issues with her relationships with her family members.  Her mother passed in 2012 so she was dealing with many of these emotions at that time. During our healing session, she realized that she did not have to let those words intimidate her anymore.  She released another layer of her upset, one related to the way she was parented.

How do we navigate this cycle?

  1. Awareness of your emotions
  2. Recognize when you are triggered and pause rather than react (this one is BIG)
  3. Honor feelings and emotions in the light of “Ah, this is that lesson I was learning back in 2012-2013.”
  4. Give gratitude for the awareness of the disharmony
  5. Release the old stories, emotions, and pain

As I often recommend to clients, “You had a favorite pair of shoes when you were a young child, you would not be able to comfortably wear those favorite shoes today because you have grown, you are different than you were as a child.”  This applies to your emotional self as well as your physical self.
