Energy Healing Gone Wrong - How Inexperienced Healers Can Damage Your Energy Field

Energy Healing Gone Wrong
In the world of Reiki healing, shamanic healing, and intuitive energy work, many of us feel a sacred calling to help others. That desire to serve is beautiful. But when it’s not paired with the right training, supervision, and inner readiness, it can unintentionally harm the very people we’re trying to support.
In the past two months, I witnessed two dear friends go through very unsettling experiences after receiving energy work from students of other healing instructors. They volunteered themselves out of the goodness of their hearts, trying to help others. What was meant to help, ended up disconnecting them from their own energy bodies in serious ways. Their physical, mental, and emotional well-being suffered—needlessly and avoidably.
And it broke my heart. π
When Healing Harms: What My Friends Experienced
As I mentioned, both friends volunteered to receive healing sessions from students still in training. They said yes with open hearts—trusting the process, wanting to support the student’s growth.
But something went very wrong.
One friend began to experience symptoms within hours of the session. The other, within a day. Their symptoms were nearly identical:
- Brain fog
- Loss of time coherence
- Inability to form words or say numbers correctly
- A heavy, disoriented, ungrounded feeling
These weren’t passing sensations. One friend dealt with this for five days before asking for help. The other suffered for three weeks, not realizing her symptoms were energetic in origin.
As someone who practices and TEACHES intuitive energy work—including Reiki healing and Shamanic healing—I was appalled. These weren’t minor energy shifts. These were severe disconnections in the energy body that deeply affected their daily functioning, their clarity, and their emotional state.
Repairing the Damage: Plugging Them Back In
When they came to me, I didn’t hesitate.
I intuitively scanned their energy systems and immediately saw the issue, in laymen’s terms, their energetic circuitry had been partially unplugged from their central energetic command center. In simpler terms, the connection between their higher energy systems and their physical bodies had been disrupted. This is energy healing gone wrong.
Once I helped reconnect those circuits—something that took careful, focused energy work—they both felt immediate relief.
How did they feel after being “plugged in” again? They told me:
“I feel like myself again.”
“The fog is gone.”
“I had no idea how off I was until you helped me.”
They were incredibly grateful. And I was relieved they were okay.
But I was also angry.
Where Were the Instructors?
Here’s the part that still stuns me: Neither of the instructors who trained the students ever followed up with my friends.
They never checked in to see how their volunteers were doing.
They never noticed—or knew how to notice—that serious disconnections had occurred.
This isn’t just a gap in training. It’s a lack of integrity in the teaching process.
If you’re going to train students in shamanic healing or Reiki healing—or any energy work—you must:
- Be able to read energy clearly
- Know when something has gone wrong
- Teach students to listen to their intuition and ask for inner permission
- Follow up with the people your students practice on
Energy work isn’t just about technique. It’s about deep energetic responsibility and compassion for others.
Teachers Carry More Responsibility
I’m not sharing this story to shame students. We all start somewhere. I take seriously the development of my students. I review their work by following the energy and seeing the changes they are creating. I also compassionately guide them to improve their skills, just as my guides did for me.
If you're a teacher, you carry an even bigger responsibility—to your students and to those they serve.
If You’re Not Sure You’re Ready… Let’s Talk
I love helping people awaken their healing gifts. I’ve trained in Reiki, shamanic healing, animal communication, and more—and I’ve mentored many who now offer beautiful, grounded healing work, for the past 15 years.
But the truth is: healing work isn’t for everyone, not right away. And that’s okay. Often, we need to heal ourselves to be a clear channel before we help others.
As I always say, those who want to heal the world need to start with themselves.
We are all connected to one another. As we feel you releasing your old wounds or mindsets, it encourages us to release ours as well. We feel this on a subconscious energetic level.
If you’re not sure you’re ready, or you feel some doubt or confusion about offering sessions, reach out. I can help you tune in, feel clear, and decide your next best step—with integrity.
Because healing should never cause harm, energy healing gone wrong can be prevented with a competent instructor.
And when done right, it reconnects us to our Higher Selves, bringing us clarity or new insights into our lives.
