Summer Solstice 2021

June 20, 10:32 pm CDT

Have you ever wondered why we celebrate Solstices?

Did you realize your intuition may be heightened on these days?

Our ancestors were plugged into the happenings of the universe when they connected in ceremony and also when they gazed into the skies. They did not blindly look up at the skies but they did look up with an intention and sometimes with wonder.

I’m sure there are times when you have looked up at the stars to feel that you are connected to more than what is simply here in front of us and maybe even for what is deeper within us.

Summer Solstice is a time when Earth tilts closest to the Sun, marking the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere.  The power of meditations, rituals, and mantras are increased on this day.  This may be why you may feel more intuitive or more connected to the Universe and the Earth.

Historically, many cultures around the world, view this day as special and sacred.  The ancient Egyptians viewed the rising of the Nile waters, signaling abundance and the Native Americans with their Sundance festival, honoring the Sun and a time for planting.  Pagans would hold bonfires, ridding themselves of evil spirits and embracing the magic of the time.

Whatever you choose to do to honor this special day, be intentional.  Perhaps you need to return to a ritual you have forgotten, such as meditation or connecting with nature.  Or maybe you desire to begin a new manifestation ritual in order to create the life you desire.

I encourage you to also include your animals with a ceremony, ritual or special treat.  When they feel included with your spiritual practice, they feel more connected with you and that strengthens the bond between you and them.

Here are a few suggestions for honoring the Solstice:

  • Gather plants or herbs and create a wreath or a bowl of lovely scented plants
  • Dance, sing, or drum, in a circle to honor the Sun
  • Keep a sacred fire burning – this reminds us of the Sun (please only do this safely and be aware of drought conditions in your area)
  • Create a prayer stick or talking stick – this can help you with your manifestations and your spiritual connection to the Universe.
  • Be in nature and honor the Earth for all she has provided to us

Wishing you Peace and Light this Summer Solstice!

Linda
